Where does the word DIY come from?
First of all, you have to soak up the DIY or Do It Yourself state of mind (literally “do it yourself”) specific to this architectural style which, it must be admitted, does not date from yesterday.
It has its origins in the decline of industrial society. From its birthplace (New York) to our countryside, industrial design feeds on abandoned factories, rehabilitated into lofts or offices, old factories and other high places of working class life in the 19th and 20th centuries. Symbol of the profound change in our societies, the industrial style recovers, repairs, reconsiders objects from the past to give them a new function, a new soul. The term DIY is above all used in everything related to the creation of the manual genre that we do ourselves. Most of the themes have appropriated this expression as of course the industrial decoration but not only of course.
Chic, at the same time personal while being devilishly cinematic, it transforms a printer's furniture into a chest of drawers or a chest of drawers, with a stamped vintage patina, recycles an old barrel into a bar or a car engine into a table leg. To create beautiful pieces of furniture, you must certainly like to hunt around and be curious about everything, but above all you must be resourceful, organized and somewhat imaginative. If you are a beginner, you do not have to start with a complex project such as an industrial style wall shelf for an entire wall, be more reasonable and practice with a simple shelf (a board and two brackets), to familiarize yourself with the process, before embarking on more ambitious creations. The method is the same anyway.
